Councilor
LaTonya A. Tate

Councilor LaTonya A. Tate grew up in North Birmingham, where she currently resides. Her father, the late Clifford Hatcher, a native of Collegeville, was a retired cabinet maker in Oxnard, California, and her mother, Barbara J. Tate, worked and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. 

Councilor Tate was educated in the Birmingham Public School System. She attended MacArthur Elementary and graduated from John Herbert Phillips High School. She graduated from the Bevill State Community College LPN program and from the University of Phoenix, where she obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Criminal Justice Administration/Security. She also holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from Grand Canyon University.

Public Safety Committee

The Public Safety Committee Advises on Matters regarding public safety, generally, Violence prevention initiatives, Offender reentry, Dance, alcoholic beverage, and special events permitting, Civil defense, Domestic violence, Substance abuse control, Emergency medical services, Environmental health & safety, Fire protection, Human Rights Commission, Licenses and permits (as it relates to public safety), Obscenity and pornography protection, Police protection and Private security guards

Transportation Committee

The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Advises on Matters Regarding: Transportation, generally, Airport and aviation, Ports, Railroads, Traffic engineering, Parking and related facilities and services, Certificates of Need for Public Conveyance, Shared use micromobility, Public transportation, Street lighting, Right of way, sidewalk, and street repairs, Engineering projects, Street dedications, Utilities, generally, Birmingham Water Works Board , Storm & wastewater, Internet & telecommunications, Public service vehicles, Radio and telephone, Taxis and jitney services, Towing & wrecker services

The Arts and Culture Committee

The Arts and Culture Committee Advises on Matters regarding support for the Arts, Cultural Assets such as developing and maintaining relations with external arts and cultural organizations such as but not limited to Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Alabama Ballet, Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Vulcan Park & Museum, Carver Theater, etc.
